Oman has reiterated its dedication to resolving international conflicts through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, as emphasized by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi highlighted the necessity of dialogue for building trust and addressing global crises while underscoring the importance of respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.
Expressing concerns about regional conflicts impacting security and trade, Oman specifically addressed the safe navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and pursue conflict resolution through diplomacy and political negotiations, standing in solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries to protect their security and sovereignty.
In relation to the ongoing crisis in Yemen, Oman renewed its support for a political resolution that maintains the country’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called for cooperation among all parties to achieve a settlement that upholds the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people and facilitates the nation’s reconstruction and development.
Oman also addressed the situation in Palestine, condemning continued Israeli actions and violations impacting Palestinians. The country reaffirmed its support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, consistent with the two-state solution and related UN resolutions. Additionally, Oman promoted its Muscat Plan to foster tolerance and counter hate speech, in collaboration with the United Nations.
Beyond these diplomatic efforts, Oman remains committed to sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040, focusing on renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. These initiatives underscore Oman’s holistic approach to fostering peace and development both regionally and globally.
