In a significant move to enhance bilateral ties, Oman and Pakistan have signed a visa exemption agreement and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation in various sectors. The agreements, focusing on technology, telecommunications, broadcasting, and information exchange, were formalized during an official visit by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to Islamabad.
The signing ceremony took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, attended by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Representing Oman, Al Busaidi signed the agreements, while Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed on behalf of Pakistan. The agreements are part of efforts to strengthen institutional ties and expand partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
A key element of the agreement is the visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports, which is expected to facilitate easier travel for eligible officials between the two countries. This agreement underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their diplomatic and governmental interactions.
The MoUs cover a broad range of areas, including telecommunications and information technology, radio and television broadcasting, and the exchange of news and information. Additionally, there is an agreement for collaboration between Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and Pakistan’s National Archives, aiming to improve coordination and the exchange of technical expertise and information.
These agreements were concluded alongside the eighth session of the Oman-Pakistan Joint Ministerial Committee, where both countries reaffirmed their dedication to expanding bilateral relations. The initiatives mark a new chapter in Oman-Pakistan relations, highlighting their shared interest in strengthening cooperation across key sectors.
