Tim Cook, transitioning from his role as Apple’s chief executive, has been awarded a compensation package valued at approximately $47 million as he assumes the position of the company’s executive chair. This package comprises a $2 million base salary and the remainder in shares, divided into two parts: a performance-tied stock award and shares that will vest over four years.
Having stepped down as CEO, Cook has passed the leadership baton to John Ternus, who will now navigate Apple’s future as its new chief executive officer. Ternus, who previously led Apple’s hardware engineering department, is set to receive a $3 million base salary along with a $55 million stock award. A significant portion of Ternus’s compensation is contingent upon performance, reflecting a strong focus on maintaining Apple’s trajectory of innovation and market leadership.
Under Cook’s leadership, Apple experienced remarkable growth, with the company’s market value climbing to an impressive $4.7 trillion by 2025. His compensation during his tenure as CEO surpassed $74 million, underscoring the financial rewards tied to Apple’s expansive growth and success under his guidance.
In his new role as executive chair, Cook will direct his efforts towards managing Apple’s external relationships, focusing on engagements with governments and policymakers. Additionally, he will oversee Apple’s crucial connections with key international markets, ensuring the company’s strategic interests are well-represented and maintained globally.
Meanwhile, Ternus’s new responsibilities as CEO involve steering Apple’s product strategy and managing its operational facets. Drawing on his extensive experience with the company, Ternus is poised to lead Apple through its next chapter, aiming to innovate and expand upon the solid foundation established during Cook’s era.
